Ecdysterone labels: purity, complex weight and capsule counts
A purity percentage and a milligram amount may describe different parts of a supplement. Learn why you should establish what each number measures before comparing ecdysterone products, calculating value or assuming that two formulas are equivalent.

Every number needs a clear reference
A percentage looks precise, but it is only useful when you know what the percentage applies to. An extract can have a stated purity before it is combined with other material. The weight of the resulting complex can then appear elsewhere on the label. Those numbers describe different things unless the manufacturer explicitly connects them.
This is a straightforward reading problem with important consequences. If you mistake a complex's total weight for its active ingredient content, you can compare products incorrectly even while doing the arithmetic perfectly. Start by writing the noun beside each number: extract, ingredient, complex, capsule or serving.
UK food-supplement guidance sets out requirements for ingredient amounts and recommended use. [1] The shopper's task is to establish exactly what the declaration means for the product in front of them. Where the relationship between an ingredient and a complex is unclear, a precise question to the supplier is more useful than an assumed calculation.
Why 95% and 1,000 mg cannot always be multiplied
The Angelic Labs page describes beta-ecdysterone standardised to at least 95%, complexed with beta-cyclodextrin. It declares 1,000 mg of the complex per two-capsule serving. The published description does not establish the separate ecdysterone mass within that complete complex. [2]
It would therefore be an unsupported step to calculate 95% of 1,000 mg and present the answer as this product's ecdysterone content. The percentage may describe an ingredient before complexing, while the milligram amount describes the combined material. To connect them you need the composition of the final complex or a direct declaration of the active amount.
A useful request is: please confirm the milligrams of beta-ecdysterone itself per recommended serving, excluding the complexing material, and the document that supports that figure. This phrasing asks for the missing information without assuming what the answer should be.
What testing documents can and cannot answer
Measured content matters. In a 2025 trial involving a commercial ecdysterone-and-diosgenin supplement, laboratory analysis found major differences between claimed and measured amounts. [3] That example supports checking what a particular document actually demonstrates; it does not establish the quality of an unrelated product.
If a supplier provides a report, look for the product or ingredient identified, batch number, date, laboratory, method and result units. Check whether it concerns a raw material or finished capsules. A convincing-looking page still needs to correspond to the bottle being discussed.
Testing also has a scope. Identity testing asks what a material is. Content testing asks how much is present. A specified contaminant screen asks whether particular unwanted substances were detected under that method. Do not treat any one of those reports as an answer to every quality question, or as a clinical trial demonstrating a benefit.
A formulation description is not an absorption result
Seeing beta-cyclodextrin in an ingredient list tells you something about the formulation. On its own, it does not quantify how much ecdysterone reaches the bloodstream or establish an improvement over another product. An absorption comparison would need direct evidence using a clearly described formulation and an appropriate reference.
Be specific about the question you want answered. Better dispersal in a laboratory vessel, a different blood concentration and better training performance would be three different findings. Evidence for the first would not automatically establish the second or third. Asking which outcome was measured prevents a formulation term from becoming an unearned performance claim.
For competitive athletes, purity is also a separate issue from prohibited-substance screening. UK Anti-Doping advises checking the actual batch in an appropriate testing programme when a supplement is being considered. [4] A high ingredient-purity percentage does not provide that batch-specific information.
Finish the comparison with practical details
The Angelic Labs bottle is listed as 60 gelatin capsules, giving 30 two-capsule servings. [2] Gelatin matters for dietary suitability: a botanical source for the named ingredient does not make the finished capsule vegetarian or vegan. Read the shell declaration as carefully as the ingredient headline.
Compare the current price per complete serving, and leave cost per milligram of ecdysterone blank if the active amount is unconfirmed. A clearly labelled blank is more accurate than a precise-looking number built from an assumption. Add supplier responses and the date checked to your comparison if further information becomes available.
These habits make supplement shopping less dependent on adjectives. You can judge whether the format suits your preferences while keeping ingredient content, testing scope and evidence of effects as distinct questions. The most useful product comparison is the one another person could reproduce from the same label and supporting information.
Common questions
Does 95% purity mean the whole complex is 95% ecdysterone?
Only if the declaration explicitly establishes that relationship. A purity percentage can describe the ingredient before it is combined with other material; complex weight alone does not identify active ingredient mass.
Are the Angelic Labs ecdysterone capsules vegetarian?
The current listing declares gelatin capsule shells, so this capsule format is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. Check the physical label when purchasing. [2]
